Review: Replacement fitting - The light in our shower cubicle was a 30 watt bulb and when I replaced it with an LED bulb it strobed (flashed on and off) after it had been on for a minute or so due to the wrong transformer for LED. This light was the only bulb in our entire house that wasn’t LED so when I saw this replacement for £28 I decided to get one as it was fitted with an LED bulb and matching transformer. It literally took me an hour and a half to replace it with the hardest part being getting in the loft to detatch the hose and disconnecting the electrics from the old one. Then I simply did all of the reattaching of the hose and the electrics through the existing hole in the shower cubicle and pushed the hose and cable back through and tightened the two fixing screws that open up the two securing clips. Before seeing this I was considering getting an electrician to quite to do this work, but anyone with any sort of DIY experience will fit this in no time. Great product and highly recommended. I asked does this item come with the transformer included and have had both yes and no answers ! Can someone please clarify ?!** A: I purchased this February 2020 so can only speak to that. There was a LED transformer supplied which has a connector block for mains. Out of the other end is the cable to the light fitting. This unit is about 3 inches by 1 inch and has fixing lugs to secure it. Hope this helps. **Q: What type of replacement led bulb is required for this product** A: I found the bulb that came with the unit had a poor light output,. I substituted it with a super LED MR 16 5.5 watt warm white. It must use an LED bulb for the transformer - in any case a halogen bulb would be too hot. I found all low voltage LEDs do not have the same colour as a halogen and the one I used has a slightly cool light. I have replaced my GU10 halogen bulbs in the house with megaman LED which are almost identical to halogen and I see they now have a MR16 12v LED warm white - but at £20! The unit fitted perfectly in the overhead extractor grill to the shower but you need a nearby power source to connect the LED transformer. It looks very good and has provided light in the shower. Hope this is of some help. **Q: Do I need to use transformer if I have inverter charger on narrowboat?** A: Not an electrician but I beleive (1) In UK bathrooms you need to be 12V and with the transformer located away from the exposed lamp installation, and (2) that transformers used for LED lights (aka LED drivers) are designed to be consistent at lower voltage/current (eg 700ma @ 3-9V). Re-using 12V transformers installed for halogen bulb levels of consumption is why so many people report flickering or not working in MR16 bulb reviews. When choosing an LED driver you have "constant voltage" (typically LED strips) and "constant current" (more powerful like up/downlights). Search "constant current LED driver" on amazon for plenty of examples of 240V AC input for a 12V LED bulb. For DC input then web searching "RS 176-6768" gives a DC input constant-current LED driver (that example supports a typical MR16 bulb off a 12V supply). If its not a bathroom then you might be ok running a GU10 bulb installation direct off 240V but you would find more options searching for extactor ducts for other rooms than bathroom (due to the 12V bathroom requirement). You'll need to check what regulations apply in your case and whether its better to provide from your DC source or inverter. Hope this is helpful. **Q: Will you be kind to let me know if the 4"5"6" inches is to do with the o.d of the Bezel ? Many thanks** A: I purchased this over a year ago so this is from memory. I purchased the 4” which is 100mm and works with the 100mm circular trunking that takes the air out via fan to external vent. So the 4” or 5” or 6” is nothing to do with outside diameter, it is the diameter of the trunking it needs to fit. There are instructions for the hole needed to be drilled in the ceiling to take the unit.
