This lovingly prepared book found its way into my hands during my own research into yoga practices tailored specifically for women. It is now firmly ensconced in my top 5 favorite and most-referenced books on yoga. The author~ Uma Dinsmore-Tuli~ has provided both a general overview of the history of women within yoga (through currently available texts), as well as well-presented and supported theories for why women's voices might not be as readily found within the more commonly used texts.Because I actively teach and develop material specific to women's yoga classes, I began to incorporate the material in 'Yoni Shakti' into my classes right away. Many women students of yoga are hungry for female-oriented practices, and they have been absorbing these like hungry plants. The line drawings and written instructions are clear, concise and plentiful. There are extended notes for women in all stages of their menstrual cycles, and life cycles, and the different practices are presented in such a way that one can go from basic to more complex confidently. Eye opening yogic philosophy rooting from female tantric lineages, hundreds of practices and flows, beautiful red text and drawings.... A lifetime of studies in one book!No matter what lineage of yoga you practice, it is important to understand yogic anatomy for women as most teachings were designed for the male body. Recommended for male teachers as well so they know how to make adjustments for their female students, which is particularly important if they are pregnant or on their menstrual cycle.I bow to Uma for these life changing teachings! There is so much refreshing insight. There are so many stories of women that ring true and resonate.
