It is specially designed as the first step before staining new, soft and porous wood. By applying Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner, we have full control over the process of even, aesthetically pleasing application of each layer and thus the end result is guaranteed. Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner: 1. Apply before staining to clean, bare wood using a cloth or brush. 2. Leave on for 5-15 minutes then remove excess with a clean cloth. 3. the stain should be applied within 2 hours of applying the primer. For best results use stains: - Minwax Wood Finish, - Minwax Gel Stain, - Minwax PolyShades. Note: Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner is not recommended for use with water-based stains. Use Minwax Water Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditoner as a primer for water-based stains. **Q: can you use danish oil after applying this wood conditioner?**
A: Theoretically yes. However, I always suggest trying a different wood.

**Q: Can you use a water based stain after this?**
A: I would not recommend. If you use an oil base, the later layers should also be oil base. Minwax also has water-based Pre-stain.
