These style biodegradable bags are made from plant-based materials, and are subsequently much more prone to ripping than standard plastic bags. This is a necessary compromise so that they will be compostable, but it also makes them lack most of the qualities you would want from a good plastic bag, such as the ability to not rip and spill used coffee grounds everywhere. This brand seems to be about as strong as the more expensive bags, since they all have to be made of the same weak material (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that).
