Champagne Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 but the story is really one of modern renaissance. In 1939 Eugenie Laurent sold the House to the de Nonancourt family and in 1948 Madame de Nonancourt passed control of the House to her son Bernard. Full of energy and ideas, Bernard was unafraid to challenge convention and had a modern vision of a champagne style that was lighter on the palate and could be enjoyed any time. He brought innovation and a pioneering spirit to the House, and so the Laurent-Perrier style of elegance and freshness was born. His legacy lives on through his daughters who manage the House today. The year 2007 began with an unusually mild winter, followed by a warm spring which led to early flowering. The summer however was disappointing but fortunately the weather improved towards the end of summer with the harvest starting in late August. Despite the chaotic summer weather it was an unexpectedly generous harvest, with grapes of good quality and maturity marked with high hinting at the potential for making vintage champagne. In appearance, Vintage 2007 is a light golden colour with a delicate bead of fine bubbles. The nose is bright and brisk with a distinct lemony freshness. The palate has pronounced citrus flavours marked by a balance between freshness and intensity with an underlying character of elegance and restraint. The creamy mousse enhances the mouth feel. The finish is lively, offering hints of white peach and mirabelle plum.
