I can't hold them fully open with one hand, but nevertheless I have used them. It is so nice not to have to work hard to cut through larger branches and twigs as the ratchet does it for you.I have spent all afternoon cutting back over grown shrubs and really pleased that my hand is not aching like it does with usual bypass cutters.
