Box Contains 1 x Vari Kennel 24-inch 10-20 Lbs Review: 24ins pet carrier - I received this recently and have just come to assemble today. Mine is not the colour advertised but all cream[just dark clips]---but no great problem. It was 'easyish' to assemble. By that I mean I did have to push the clips together with a bit of 'oomph' but eventually all clipped into place. The fact that is was a little tight to clip is quite good as,hopefully, the clips will actually STAY clipped!!! It does seem sturdy enough but I have not bought the basket for any air-line travel only as a 'stand-by' basket for any vet trips to accommodate my 7kgs+ cat [or his smaller brother!!!] It does seem he will have quite a bit of room to stretch and be comfy. I cannot comment on the handles' strength---- as I 've stated its a 'stand-by'. It appears good for my boys. Review: Great carrier! This is my second one. - I have had this carrier before and it lasted me 20 years. The handle finally gave way after this long. I love the size because it is big and I can put my two cats in it with room to spare. Definitely recommend this! ## Features - Provides 360 degrees ventilation - Ideal for training and traveling - Includes easy squeeze latch door ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B00DJR9X2M | | Brand | Petmate | | Brand Name | Petmate | | Closure Type | Snap | | Colour | Taupe | | Compatible with Vehicle Type | Car | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,546 Reviews | | Dog Breed Size | Large | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00029695218637 | | Included Components | See Packaging | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 61L x 42.4W x 36.8H centimetres | | Item Type Name | Pets Kennel | | Item Weight | 4.45 Pounds | | Item weight | 4.45 Pounds | | Manufacturer | Doskocil Mfg | | Manufacturer Part Number | 21863 | | Material | Plastic | | Material Type | Plastic | | Maximum Weight Recommendation | 20 Pounds | | Model Name | Pet Mate Traditional Vari Kennel for Pet Training and Traveling | | Model Number | 21863 | | Pet Type | Dog | | Product Style | 10-20 LBS | | Product dimensions | 61L x 42.4W x 36.8H centimetres | | Recommended Uses For Product | Traveling | | Size | 61 cm L x 42 cm W x 37 cm H | | Special Features | Comfortable, Durable, Eco-Friendly, Lockable, Ventilated | | Special feature | Comfortable, Durable, Eco-Friendly, Lockable, Ventilated | | Target Audience | Dog | | Target Species | Dog | | UPC | 029695218637 | | Unit Count | 1 count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Petmate - **Colour:** Taupe - **Material:** Plastic - **Product dimensions:** 61L x 42.4W x 36.8H centimetres - **Special feature:** Airy, Comfortable, Durable, Eco Friendly, Lockable ## Images ![Pet Mate 21863 Vari Kennel,Taupe/Black, 24-Inch - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71n8k3JGmUL.jpg) ![Pet Mate 21863 Vari Kennel,Taupe/Black, 24-Inch - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71xtEqxL7sL.jpg) ![Pet Mate 21863 Vari Kennel,Taupe/Black, 24-Inch - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71twrHpEDPL.jpg) ![Pet Mate 21863 Vari Kennel,Taupe/Black, 24-Inch - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71RTVVVeapL.jpg) ![Pet Mate 21863 Vari Kennel,Taupe/Black, 24-Inch - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81xruc4VWpL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Is it good to carry a Canada goose to the wildlife clinic?** A: It depends what size you get. If you get the larger sizes there is no handle to carry it on top. **Q: can it be used for ferrets** A: I'm sure the smallest one could be used for ferrets -- but there might be better ones. I think ferrets can make themselves skinny and small and escape from places that seem impossible to escape from. I'd look around for something that has smaller holes, or is maybe made of mesh. (BTW: In my state it's illegal to own ferrets.) **Q: How do you use the seat belt loop to secure the crate in your car** A: For 24" kennels and below, there is a seatbelt slot located right next to the top handle. Just thread the shoulder portion of the seatbelt through it. For 28" and larger, there are tiedowns at the bottom of the kennel that require a rope to be run through it and then secured. That is typically more for truckbed or back of SUV use. **Q: Does the 24in come with screws?** A: Yes, plastic tabs with metal screw fastners. Tip from someone who has ran a kennel since 1990, zip ties work just as well, especially if you lose the fastners. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 24ins pet carrier *by L***A on 12 January 2020* I received this recently and have just come to assemble today. This is my second one. *by L***A on 22 October 2020* I have had this carrier before and it lasted me 20 years. The handle finally gave way after this long. I love the size because it is big and I can put my two cats in it with room to spare. Definitely recommend this! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty great for a large cat if you don't require a top door. *by B***S on 28 March 2022* I have an 11 pound cat that is very long, like not fat just big. This carrier is a perfect size for him. I bought a cheap 24" L x 18" W x 11.2" MidWest Bolster Pet Bed and it fits nicely and he seems to feel comfortable on it. He urinated in the carrier once and the pet bed absorded all the pee, and was very easy to wash after, just FYI... Anyway, he did seem very comfortable in the carrier and even went in there to sleep a few times after the three trips he's taken it it (once the bed was washed) so he must find it cozy in there. Some other reviewers have complained about the build quality or lightness of the plastic of this particular size when compared to the bigger ones but I think it's well made (and have used other carriers of the same size that I have felt I needed to hold from the bottom because they felt flimsy). If it were any heavier, it would be impossible to carry for more than a few steps (in the case of weaker people). It has both a clip-on top but also bolts and I appreciate that it has both. Some people opt to just use the clips but I would be worried the top would come off (a lot of the carriers with a top door only have clips or else the top door is where the handle is placed and I have noticed a lot of review of those other carriers mention that the bottom dropped or door opened rendering handle useless while the animal was in transit!). Consequently, I prefer a carrier for my cat without a top door. I find I have little if no trouble getting my cat in a carrier (I just place the carrier with the door at the top and lower my cat in quickly and even if he protests, he doesn't have time to refuse). Anyway, the thing seems sturdy to me and I guess because it's made for a dog, it also has a little more height so my tall cat can adjust more easily. It was also pretty easy to put together, only took five minutes or so... ## Frequently Bought Together - Petmate Vari Dog Kennel - Portable Dog Carriers & Crates for Small Dogs, Airline-Friendly, Durable Plastic, Pet Carrier For Home and Travel, 24 Inches, Taupe and Black - KHONSU PET Dog Bed Mat Crate Pad for Up to 25 lbs Dogs with Reversible Sides for Cold and Hot Seasons, Completely Washable Cushioned Pad 1.1inch Thin Dog Bed --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.hr/products/66803193-pet-mate-21863-vari-kennel-taupe-black-24-inch](https://www.desertcart.hr/products/66803193-pet-mate-21863-vari-kennel-taupe-black-24-inch) --- *Product available on Desertcart Croatia* *Store origin: HR* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
