Review: Perfect for Vespers but ouch!....the price is steep. - An absolutely stunning aperitif wine, the taste is much more complex than Noily Prat, at first taste it can be very difficult to describe, it has a dry sourness but also a sweetness, there's a bitterness also....how that is possible is quite beyond me. If you drink it neat it is less easy on the palate in many ways but as a mixer it gives the finished drink a depth and complexity that Noily Prat doesn't. There are many floral notes and perhaps pine. I bought this for making Vespers as it is more akin to the original dry Kina Lilet than the modern sweet Lilet Blanc....and my goodness it makes the best Martinis and Vespers.... I really love it! The price is unfortunately horribly expensive and can be over £20 a bottle. It did make the best Vesper I’d ever tasted though!! It really is utterly superb. It is twice the price of Noily Prat but my goodness it is exceptional and very difficult to choose another vermouth/botanics infused wine after trying this. If you have an educated palate...you will be overjoyed!
Review: delicious and perfect for cocktails - This is recommended instead of Lillet Blanc (itself very nice, and frankly cheaper) for the Vesper cocktail. It's delicious, with complex flavours and a slightly bitter background from the quinine, but very well balanced. Try a reverse Vesper using 60ml of Cocchi, 20ml of vodka and 10ml of gin (or 60:30:30) - great taste and makes for a lighter aperitif.
