The fan is fairly quiet for this type of utility and has several speeds to increase cooling power if need be. It holds an 18" screen sized laptop comfortably and has different height positions that are held sturdily The controls are front and center and there is an optional USB port for charging another item while using the laptop. I have had several cooling pads over the years and have never found one that was actually large enough to hold a large laptop well. This one does and does it with style. I liked this so well I bought three more and gave one to my son, one to my daughter, and one to my grandson, and they all love it.
