The "sound activated" display works well, and shows the current time and temperature in blue LED digits that are about 1-1/2-inches high.The unit has two power sources - four AAA batteries or a USB cord. I wanted only a battery-operated clock because an extra power adapter is THE LAST THING I need under my desk. In the old days an LCD clock would run for a year or more on a single AA battery.
