With the lid at a 90 degree angle press against the side of the box at the connection point while pushing straight in on the outside. Then do the same thing for the top and bottom. **Q: Has anyone figured out how to make the lid line up correctly?** A: No. Lid warped when in sun anyways, so failed either way. **Q: Is the dark black 31 gallon box really a different color/shade of black than the black 100 gallon box? I would like to put them next to each other** A: Experience with this item not good. Gave it one star only. Bought for rattan pattern matching patio furniture.
