For that purpose, it works perfectly. I've currently got a hardcover book, a paperback, a full-size box of tissues and my glasses in it. I could add another book or a small water bottle and be just fine.Keep in mind, though, that I have the tongue of this organizer underneath a queen-size mattress. That's a pretty heavy counterweight. If you're going to use it with a twin-size bed or a chair, you won't be able to keep as many items in it. If you're expecting to put a large water bottle, six hardcover books and a couple lead weights in it, you will find it does end up on the floor. This organizer does NOT attach to the frame of your bed. The general idea is good. But the long tab that is supposed to secure the whole caddy, and prevent it from slipping off the arm rest, is not long enough to tuck under the seat cushion - or anywhere else that would put enough pressure on it to keep it from sliding off. When the caddy is loaded with TV remotes, it slips off, onto the floor.
