I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in a wide mouth Tattler lid using a regular drill bit. I wanted to start with a 1/2 inch bit instead of the 5/8 to see if it was enough space for the grommet, and it was. I figure this will give a better air tight seal. I'm going order more of these to make more fermentation jars, because they make great gifts. Shipping was fast and they also included fermentation instructions, which was nice because this was the first time at fermentation for me. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Work great. *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on 12 June 2016* Excellent product, perfect for adding an airlock to my fermentation jars. Fit the airlock snugly, have made several batches of lacto-fermented pickles and kimchi with them. Just spent time tonight making some new lids. Came back to look up the drill bit size in the product description. Glad the tip is listed. Keep having to make more jars since my significant other keeps giving the jars away.One small note, they recommend a 1/2, or 5/8's drill bit for these. That is a fairly large drill bit and many drill boxes do not have bits that large. You may have to buy a drill bit. I actually ended up grabbing one of my router bits.
