## Description

Product Description Scotts reel lawn mower is a healthy alternative to all other lawn mowers. This old-fashioned lawn mower only requires your energy to function. This is a 100% manual powered reel lawn mower that puts off zero fumes or emissions. This push mower is low maintenance since you only have to be mindful of the sharpness of the blades and nothing else. Scotts manual push lawn mower has a cutting width of 14". The 5-blade reel mower features durable heat-treated alloy steel blades and has adjustable cutting height of 1/2"-1.75" The 8. 5" composite wheels helps the push mower with transportation and maneuverability. A reel mower uses a cutting action that does not bruise or damage the blades of grass. For best results from Scotts push mower, mow no more than 1/3 of the grass blade, so that deeper roots are encouraged. Increase the amount of overlap while using your push mower if your lawn reaches a height of 4 inches or more. Try not reel mower when the grass is wet. It usually produces a very uneven cut. Before using your reel lawn mower, make sure to collect and remove any lawn debris before mowing. Reel mowers work best on maintained lawns. If your lawn is overgrown with divots and tall weeds it is recommended to have the lawn worked on before using a reel lawn mower or it will take multiple passes the first time using a reel mower From the Manufacturer The power source behind our mowers hasn't changed much in 100 years. It's still readily available on demand. You can still fuel it for the price of a banana and a glass of milk. It always works when you want it to, and it doesn't leave any residue for the environment to absorb other than a couple of foot prints in a perfectly cut lawn. People- the power behind our mowers in 1895, and the power behind them today. What has changed is the product available to the people. At Great States, we've applied a century of technology to a good old fashioned idea: the reel lawn mower. Today's reel mowers are lightweight and easy to maneuver. They're ideal for today's smaller lawns, and today's hectic lifestyles. They're always ready when you're ready, and they're almost maintenance free with no spark plugs to foul or engines to clog up. They're good to the environment and they're good to the lawn, snipping the grass for a clean, precise cut. A cut that's helped us carve our niche as the nation's largest manufacturer of in-demand, on-demand reel mowers. We've spent 100 years of perfecting our reel mower designs, streamlining our production processes and searching for the best possible materials to build the best reel mowers possible. And we're proud of all that. But more important still, we've spent the last 100 years, and we'll spend the next 100 more, keeping America Green. Great States 14-inch cutting width Reel Lawn Mower. 3 spider 5 blade ball bearing reel. Heat treated alloy steel reel and bed knife blade. 10-inch composite wheels with radial rubber tires. Review: It's a REELy good mower! - First time using a reel mower. I just moved to a home with a much smaller yard than I've had for the last 10 years. Went from riding a zero turn mowing about 5 acres to a quarter acre lot, so I didn't want to have to store my big mower with all the gas containers at my new home. I almost bought an electric mower, but I looked up the top rated mowers on desertcart and reel mowers popped up. Since I live in FL and the grass grows quickly and very thick here, I opted for the 7 blade reel mower. Most products I found were out of stock for 7 blade, but I was able to find this one. It was pretty easy to assemble except for the last step which requires you to put the handle on the posts for the mower itself. That part took a bit of strength on my part and I'm 6'2 and 225lbs. Might have been easier with a second person, but it's not impossible with one. My yard had got pretty thick as I have just moved in about two weeks ago and no one had mowed it in about a month. It had also just started raining for a few minutes before I got started. This little thing got the job done and I was pretty surprised. Like I said, the grass had got pretty thick, so some spots took more effort than others and I took the time to cross cut the yard like I had seen mentioned in previous reviews. The yard looked great and the areas that weren't as thick were very easy to push through. I'm confident that now that I have this and can mow on a regular basis before the yard is so thick, that this mower is exactly what I needed. It makes some noise as you turn the reel, but it's much more quite than anything with a motor. I'm also looking forward to the added exercise as I get out there and push this thing across the yard each week. I still need to invest in a weed trimmer.
Review: Easy To Use And Maintain - Note: I have a much used, years old, 20" Scotts Classic, with a vintage grass catcher, that I just rebuilt (found parts online) and now use it to collect garden mulch. Decided to try this 18" Scotts when I don't need to collect mulch, which is most of the time. The cost was much better here than if I'd have gotten it locally. Delivery was fast and assembly was quick and easy. Its not as heavy duty and weighty as the vintage push-mower I used as a teen in the 60s, but it mows the grass just as well. Maintenance/upkeep should be easy. The height adjustment is adequate; I like to maintain the yard (a mix of grass and other volunteer ground-cover) at about 3 inches. It stays green and is toad, frog and other small animals friendly and useful even during our more frequent, now, drier than "normal" conditions. It's easier to use than my power-mower on the 1/4 acre yard surrounding the house; much lighter weight, of course, (can push it one-handed when necessary) and maneuvers much easier. Indeed, it only takes about 45min. to do the yard with the Scotts whereas the heavy, cumbersome power-mower took about an hour or more; will use it now for only mowing the hilly trails in the 10 acre woodlot (need the self-propelled feature and brush-cutting blades for that) and mulching and collecting the leaves around the house, for composting, in the Fall. What can I say, some people have two or three vehicles or more, I now have three useful lawnmowers.

A: Tom,
Thank you for your question. The weight is @19 pounds.
We hope this answered your question.

**Q: Lady is 80 years old. Easy to push? Lady does a lot of yard work
& week wacking etc.**
A: I cut our lawn with a push mower in Michigan for many years when growing up. It was easy and clean. Once the push mower was moving, it seemed to have momentum that propelled it. I bought this unit recently and was surprised at how difficult it is to push. I am no weaker than when I was a teenager. I think the issue is that both the unit is more difficult to push, and the grass when I live in Southern California is much thicker. Another issue is that the width is only 14 inches, which should make it easier to push, but does not seem to. However, the small width requires about 43% more pushing distance than a standard 20-inch model (20/14 = 1.43), so you'll be working longer. I recommend this model only for thin (normal?) grass and a small lawn. I would not recommend it if there are concerns about the user's strength or stamina.

**Q: Does it work for putting greens?**
A: Aidan,
Thank you for your question. Professional golf courses use reel mowers. The Scotts 14" reel can be set at its lowest to 1/2 and inch.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better than expected
*by E***L on June 1, 2009*

After finding my gas mower in need of repairs this year I purchased this mower. It has exceeded my expectations and I really enjoy using it. I haven't used any other reel types so my comparison is based on previous push mower experience. Out of the box to fully assembled is a breeze. No tools required. I would prefer a tool based assembly, since there are so many twist knobs on the handles. I suppose if they start working loose, they will be easy to tighten without stopping for tools. The handle is the only thing to assemble. the reel and wheels are pre-assembled. The good: 1. The cut is very clean, like using scissors. Makes sense when you look at the cutting action, that's more or less what's going on. 2. The mower is light compared to a full blown push mower. 3. It doesn't take much more effort to push than a conventional mower. 4. It's quiet. About the same sound as hand shears for shrubs. 5. No gas to buy, spill or transport, or store. 6. No fuel means no fuel stabilizer or winterizing. 7. Easy to start, just walk. The bad: 1. Some tall grasses will simply lay down when this mower passes over it. (my mother in law's yard has some clumps that devolop shoots quickly, like it's going to seed) 2. Small branches, twigs about as thick as a pencil lead have stopped the reel when they get into the reel. This isn't all bad, since the yard will benefit when you remove branches & twigs. 3. The reel only moves when you are moving. It may spin for a second and a half after walking ceases, but that's it. 4. The reel only spins when you walk forward, a bit more trouble mowing around ditches & mailboxes. 5. No bag included on this model. So if you mow the grass because you have to, and it's trouble for a gas powered mower to get through in one pass, this is not the mower for you. If you don't clear debris out of the yard before mowing, this probably won't suit your needs.( I used to fit this catagory myself) My concerns before getting a reel type were: Will it cut thick grass? Yes, but you do feel more resistance to pushing. Not bad, but perceptible for sure. Will the wheels skid in my yard instead of powering the reel? I tilled the yard & planted seed. It's still very soft and the wheels are not pulling up this tender grass, even while pushing up a pretty steep grade. Will the extra effor wear me out, making the lawn a dreaded chore? Not at all. The first step is noticable when the reel is spinning up to speed. After that it's very little extra effort.
