Yes, one can use glass or plexiglass with grey paper underneath, but this is much better. Easy to clean ( I used it only for acrylics, not oils) cleans well, and acrylic dried out acrylic films are easy to pull off. Sturdy, not light weight, and has a good size. After using a real butcher tray as a palette before I was thinking it maybe too small, but not, actually is quite handy. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Investment Ever *by on Reviewed in the United States June 7, 2020* I really like this palette. I didn't believe it would clean up so easy, but it did! You can peel off the pain if it is thick enough. If it is thin, just run it underwater and use a sponge with a very gentle scrub side and it comes right off. DO NOT SCRAPE THIS! I made that mistake. I got lazy and tried to use a harsh scrubber and a metal spatula thing....I scratched it. oops. It still works great, didn't mess it up too bad.
