## Description

This is a sweeping tale of Scottish art, chronicling 5000 years of creativity that shaped a nation. From ancient Neolithic symbols carved into Kilmartin Glen's landscape to Glasgow's current status as an artistic hub, artist and broadcaster Lachlan Goudie vividly recounts the triumphs and challenges of generations of craftspeople, painters, and sculptors who documented and influenced Scotland's societal transformations.

Review: Great book, best price, great service. - Beautiful collection of Scottish art and history, further enriched by it's excellent condition, decent price, and very good packaging so ensure it's continued nice condition. Hope to do more business with this Seller.
Review: An Informative and Enjoyable Read! - I enjoyed reading this very much. Lachlan made even the ancient art interesting. I don't typically care to read about it. Perhaps it was just too dry previously. Great descriptions and photos are included. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting to learn more about Scottish Art.

### ⭐⭐⭐ great beginning, then drags
*by J***T on October 30, 2020*

This is a terrific study, at least at the beginning. As the author (an artist himself) clearly points out, it is NOT a textbook, but neither is it just a coffee-table doorstop. The writing is clear and to the point. The illustrations are nicely sized for the page, and most are very beautiful for their own sake. The "story" of the title is told lightly from these examples, many of which are also carefully placed to illustrate some element of Scottish history. The problems arise, however, with the 17th-18th centuries, when the author seems to get very tired of his subject, writing more and more about well-chewed-over Scottish history and less and less about art. Get it for the pictures at the beginning and then starting again toward the very end. In between, tedium.
