You can identify these types of cables by the fact that one end says "SOURCE" and the other end says "TV". In order for this adapter to work, you have to use a bi-directional cable such as the AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable - 9.8 Feet (3 Meters) Supports Ethernet, 3D, and Audio Return. Bi-directional cables don't care which end plugs into what.
