The second pack was terrible; I tried three different sticks and none of them gave out enough light to be useful. I had one stick left over from my first order so I lit it to compare with one of the new ones, see the attached pictures. Both of these sticks were cracked within minutes of each other, and the pictures were taken about 15 minutes after opening the packages.I'm going to give Cyalume the benefit of the doubt and assume I got a bad lot, but this is still unacceptable for an emergency product. I'm glad I found this out before I had to rely on one of these. ### ⭐⭐ Not the best product of its type, by my test. See images. *by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2019* I bought a 20-pack of these, thinking that USA-made Cyalume branded sticks would be superior to lesser-known Chinese brand. The expiration date on the package is 07/24. On the same order, I also bought a 12-pack of Glow Mind Safety Light Sticks (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GTU597I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to compare. These expire in 07/23. I snapped an example from each package at exactly the same time, and checked them 4, 8 and 12 and 16 hours later. At every stage, the Glow Mind sticks were brighter. At 16 hours, four hours beyond rating for either product, the Glow Mind stick viewed next to the the Cyalume stick was roughly 1.5x as bright as the Cyalume, though both were quite dim. I did the viewing in a dark closet. The Glow Mind product is $1.08 each in the 12-pack on the date of purchase. The Cyalume product is $0.99 each on the date of purchase, but I had to buy the 20-pack to get that price. One of my kids thought that the Cyalume product had more fluid overall, but I pointed out that the Cyalume sticks have fluid from the very bottom of the stick upward, while the Mind Glow sticks have a short unfilled base. When accounting for the base, the fluid fill is as near identical in both products as far as can be observed without breaking them open to get a fluid measurement. The Cyalume product is hexagonal while the Glow Mind is round. Both have an eyelet and a hook at the top for hanging. The Cyalume product is marked "Made is the USA" and the Glow Mind product is marked "Made in China." Sadly, the Chinese product outperforms the USA product in initial brightness and in residual brightness throughout the 16-hour evaluation period. The Cyalumes DID arrive with an additional year on the expiration date over the Glow Mind, but I'm not sure that matters much: I bought both of these products to replace USA-made Ameriglo product that I expended during a recent overnight power failure, and those provided useful light over the 8 hours of the power outage even though they had reached their expiration date in February of 2015, almost five years ago. Mind Glow for me, going forward. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bright after 12 hours, usable glow after 26 hours! See photos. *by D***R on Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2017* Wow. These have far exceeded specifications. See pictures - still emitting useful glow after 26 hours since activation. Photos are at 26 hour point; at 12 hours it was plenty bright. At 26 hours there was enough light to dIscern pictures and read fine text. Sure, it is fading but, c'mon - 26 hours and it is rated for 12? That's just crazy good.Important: Stick was at room temp (about 75F) entire time; there was NO artificial chilling (e.g., refrig/freezer) or dip in temp (e.g., outdoors --> a cooler night) to prolong chemical reaction. Lowering the temp is a "trick" that can be used to extend life of light. This was not done.Sympathy note: I truly feel sorry for the people who wrote one star reviews because the sticks they received seem to have expired and faded quickly. I believe you, I do. What a tragedy if a person went to use (and rely on) one of these in a dire emergency, only to find it fades to zero after 90 minutes or so. That is criminal.Because of those one star reviews I tested one of the ten in my batch. It glowed right away, was "bright" (as bright as a glow stick can be, I guess!) and was strong at 12 hours. I wanted to vouch for this product and also thank the "bad batch" reviewers who prompted me to test these BEFORE an emergency.
