The white is plastic. The softer metal will bend, I can attest to that. **Q: can I use this cutter to also make carrots and sweet potatoes fries?** A: Yes. I have made sweet potato fries several times. I microwaved the sweet potato for 1 minute 20 seconds and after trimming it to fit on the machine it worked great. Note: I did use the larger opening blade for the fries, have not tried the smaller ones on a sweet potato yet. I am saving the the trimmed portion of the sweet potatoes in a freezer bag and will use them to make mashed sweet potatoes. **Q: Does this cut sweet potatoes?** A: Yes, but the sweet potatoes need to be slightly cooked before using the Tower Fry Cutter. **Q: Is this product guaranteed?** A: Ehhh? I do not make this product and so there fore I cannot offer a Guaratee. Everything smaller than a refrigerator is made in China these days.
