I bought my second one as a gift through Amazon.Without boring you with details:I've never heard of EMTEC prior to buying this. I did find out they make quite a few items. (USBs, memory cards and cell phone accessories) I was skeptical as I wasn't as familiar with them, but they seem to be in most large retailers...so I took a chance.I'm glad I did too! I take this thing everywhere. Once you get how it works/used to using it.If I go to a public place I use the wifi hotspot/router function to give me some security when surfing. (I can also share the private Wifi as well... as it works like a router)Any pictures I take on my phone I immediately transfer to this drive when I get home or back to the hotel while on vacation. If I ever lose my phone, I can be assured I'll still have the pictures and securely erase my phone without worry. I imagine it would probably work with a WiFi camera as well...I don't have one, but I'd definitely use this with it, if I did!!The other feature is the sharing function. You can stream multiple movies, music, and pictures to multiple users at the same time. Great for road trips with the family as you don't need an internet connection. It creates it's own WiFi that you can connect to using the app. I guess WiFi is a universal word, as I thought WiFi needs internet....but, I was wrong.(You need to connect to internet connected WiFi or plug in the internet cable to get internet).The app is easy and straight forward and very user friendly. The only somewhat difficult part is if you're using the router function, setup is somewhat confusing if you do it manually, but it can be set to automatic.The instructions are a little much...they come in a few different languages and it makes it a little more difficult to read, but English is listed and once you read everything it's not too bad.I have no complaints thus far with the actual device.The best part is not uploading all my files to the cloud....which I still don't trust. With this you can carry around all your files and have some security knowing that it won't be hacked.Oh, and you can hook it up to your computer with USB and the drive will mount, for easy file transfer or backups.I will be buying more in the future; can't say enough good things about it! ### ⭐ No good for wifi/internet *by P***R on March 28, 2023* No good/ but as just USB drive does good but for the price and storage limitations do better some were else getting a drive. ### ⭐ Everything is a LIE! instructions leave out required set up info, and is not compatible with iTunes *by N***K on June 2, 2015* As a portable hard drive this works great, but that is about it. The instructions are terrible and give no insight on how to set it up. When you try to access the wi-fi for the first tim their is a default password (EMCTEC4567) This is not given in the provided instructions, and I had to go out and find it. For playing music this works poorly, their is no way to shuffle songs or have a playlist, each song must be clicked individually. When I tried to load a movie on my phone from this product I could only get audio, and not video. Their is no way to organize songs or videos either, the default is alphabetical order so all of my TV series and movies were intermixed. I purchased this product so I could transfer my entire iTunes library, Music/Movies/Tv This product is unable to play any iTunes file weather it is a movie or a TV show. so I am unable to play 99% of my content. If you solely wish to transfer files then i guess this works,but if you wish to expand the music and video content of your phone or laptop, this is virtually useless, and you might as well give up and buy a chorded one.
