Revolution does work, and does need a prescription. **Q: How is frontline gold different from regular frontline for cats?** A: While Frontline-Plus has 2 active ingredients, Frontline-Gold contains a 3rd active ingredient, pyriproxifen, which interferes with egg production and prevents the larvae (juvenile fleas) from becoming adults. I gather it acts similarly to another growth/reproduction regulator, S-methoprene, which both Frontline-Plus and -Gold contain. Neither of these ingredients actually kill fleas, so I don't think it's meant to act faster in that respect, compared to the -Plus version. Both products contain Fipronil, which is the ingredient that kills adult fleas and ticks, and they contain the same percentage of it. It seems to work great and I’m at ease knowing flea eggs are also killed. Vet said I should not have to worry about worms as long as she’s using it. The only concern I’ll be watching for is that she got sick within days of putting it on her. However, I cannot say it was the frontline itself. So I’ll be paying more attention on her next dose. My cat is about 7 pounds, she’s a year old. Make sure to put the liquid on the back of the neck.
