My husband I and live in Florida so the weather fluctuates a lot which causes a lot of humidity, especially in our closets. I had to always keep a close eye on the shoes and clothes because we started seeing mildew and mold on some shoes. Long story short, I knew I had to do something because I was tired of constantly having to clean shoes, hats, clothes and the whole closet. I’ve had this dehumidifier for almost two months now and I am very happy with it..The closets have never been so dry and free mold and mildew.The first day I plugged it and put it in the closet, it took a little while to get to work, but on the 3rd - 4th day, I noticed a difference. I leave it on 24/7 now and drain the water out every 3-4 days. Bad - it does not seem to be as effective as the Ivation that it replaced ( but the Ivation GDM36 does seem to be rated for a slightly higher amount of cubic feet). The Ivation just stopped working- and at least for me there did not appear to be any "user serviceable" parts inside. It's been doing its job for a singular room, but awhile ago I noticed a little dark spot on the tank. Finally decided to give a shot at cleaning it today... I could quickly tell that the purple lid on the container is *not* meant to be removed. Hence my attempt at washing it from the inside by putting in soap and warm water. (Spoilers: it didn't do much good.) My boyfriend has some health issues and asthma so this is unacceptable.
