They are bendable both directions depending on the dominant hand of the child. They are sturdy, with great quality material and feel comfortable in the hand. My son knew how to use a fork and spoon already, but was having problems eating because he would turn the utensil upside down on the way to his mouth, causing the food to fall off....he eats so much better with these!! I also like the fact that once he gets the hang of eating with the bent position, he will be able to straighten them out and use them even longer. Took a few weeks for delivery, but I was expecting that.
