If you don't have a wall switch purposely for the blower, then you'll need to use the FBK-250, which uses a thermostat to automatically control the blower for you. We own it, and would like to turn the fan down a bit...** A: I suggest you buy the thermostat unit that turns on automatically when the proper heat level is met. Also, very important, the thermostat unit continues to run until the fireplace temperature cools. This avoids excess heat build up which can burn out the motor. Unfortunately, the FBK kits typically don't fit these older Superior fireplaces. The original FAK-160 and FAK-1500 fan kits were discontinued several years ago and there isn't a great replacement for them. We've been able to retro fit a number of these older fireplaces with slightly customized kits, so if that's something you'd like to explore, get in touch with us directly and we'll certainly see what we can do. You'll just need to make sure that when you remove the lower access panel, that you have more than 4 1/16" of vertical clearance through that initial opening. If not, send us a PM directly and we'll be happy to help from there. If you don't have a dedicated wall switch for the blower, then you'll need the thermostatically controlled FAB-1600. If you do have a switch for the blower, either the 1100 or 1600 can be used. In my case, electrical plug prewired to wall switch. Just bent up tabs to hold fan in place. Then plugged it in.As delivered this fan is not quiet. I would compare it to a ceiling fan on fastest speed.We replaced wall switch with a Lutron Diva fan controller. On low speed very quiet now.In my opinion, the extra dollars for this fan over others is worth it. Some observations:- While the installation is pretty straight forward it’s tricky with existing pipework in the way. There are a few youtube videos that guide you through the installation which I recommend watching if you have never installed one before.- I recommend cleaning the housing to ensure that the Velcro pads stick. The lugs in the aluminum housing are tricky to bend over as the existing pipework gets in the way- The fan isn’t as noisy as I expected but it can be heard.
