I had a diving board that was looking rough and didnt want to go the Olympia/Silica route. This fit the bill perfect! Im sure more prep would have been ideal, but I just pressure washed it, painted some of this one there, and voila! Brand new and grippy! I high pressured the carpet off in tandem with a paint scraper. Then I used lacquer thinner again in tandem with a 4 1/2 inch electric horizontal grinder with a..... "SOFT "..... wire brush to get the glue and brought the aluminum to bright. . I cleaned up the loose glue as I went .Then I high pressured the complete job with soapy water . Then fresh water. Then I wiped everything with acetone . Then pressure washed again with fresh water . Drip dried. Then primed with Total Boat PRIMER (Premium Marine Primer...says it on the can) . 8 inch short nap roller. I let it dry well. Then painted with Total Boat deck paint. 2 coats. I've been doing alot of walking /working on my boat. Dragging things across it hoping I don't mess up the paint job. This paint is tuff. The non-skid stuff in it is great. If I did this for a living I would use this paint as my "go to" for deck painting. **Q: Can I use this over a marine gloss polyurethene finish. Wil it adhere okay?** A: You would have to scuff the surface first. I imagine with 150 to 180 grit sandpaper. You could even use a DA sander just enough to remove the gloss. Mineral spirits just fine for clean up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Made my old boat look new! *by D***E on 12 October 2017* Product came packed very securely in a heavy-walled cardboard box. Even so, the delivery people still managed to drop it and dent the bottom of the gallon can. No fault of the seller, but clearly the heavy handed delivery company. Thanks for the gloves, stir sticks and pouring/mixing cups! The paint itself was very EZ to work with and I got a great finish. I did one coat and noticed some lite coverage in a few areas, so I feel strongly that 2 coats are needed. It was pretty sunny out so the mis-coverage was my fault. Even so, the finish was very very nice. I used a 1/8" nap roller and did not need to tip it with a brush. I used blue painters tape to mask my areas and then pulled it up without issue in about 30 minutes time. I HIGHLY recommend using the gloves because this stuff is not easy to remove from your hands without full strength mineral spirits. I waited a few days to let the paint cure (not sure that was needed but I did my best to stay off the new finish and not wash or scrub it for a few days). When I washed my boat the following week, I totally noticed a renewed sense of safety thanks to the new nonskid paint! And having my nonskid as a new color, people can totally see where to step and NOT to step when running around the boat. The finish is easy on my feet too. All in all it was a great project that made my old girl look new and sexy again! My tip for others with an old, chalky, no-longer-shiny fiberglass boat is to wetsand the glossy (slippery) areas to bring back the shine (really works!) and then mask off the non-skid areas and paint that area with this TotalTread product. Again, this project made my old boat a new boat! I purchased the sand beige (check out the pix). I ordered a gallon: one coat on a Catalina 30 sailboat used up about a quart. So then two coats would require half gallon.
