Intended use is 1 cable(hidden as much as possible) per leg of an 8 leg 10 x 20 canopy.** A: You regain about an inch maybe 2 tops. of slack when you pull it. I used mine to anchor the end post for my vineyard. Worked well. **Q: How well do these with in rocky soil? Are they strong enough to pass by some rocks without bending?** A: I didn't hit any rocks but from what I can tell these things are really made with high quality metal and I would assume they would eventually get through the rocks. I know there are cheaper versions out there but when I got these I was very impressed with the workmanship **Q: How hard are they to get back out of the ground?** A: You'll have to dig them out. If you drive them into the ground all the way to the loop, there's really no way to pull them out by hand. **Q: How good are these for tree straightening? If they are good, what is the maximum tree diameter that these can beused?** A: I didn't use them for anything but anchoring a deer blind that kept blowing over.
