I think the base is called a candelabra base. The bulb is perfectly clear and there is no writing visible. I am not able to test the dimming capability as I don't have a dimmer on the lamp. They look good and are what I was wanting.Unfortunately, after only 6 months in our little-used dining room the bulbs have begun to flicker and burn out. One dies about every two weeks. I expected better so this is ultimately a big disappointment. The flickering is big irritation.
