It's replacing a Shinco unit that died early. While this is not as quiet as the Shinco, it works an order of magnitude better. Review: There's over 50,000 reviews for the Homelabs dehumidifiers of various types, this is for the 4,000 Sq Ft with Pump that I bought for my basement. It's just junk! When I received it I made sure it sat unplugged where I was going to use it for 24 hours as the instructions said to. Originally my basement's humidity was around 55% and I set the dehumidifier for 45%. It ran for 2 1/2 days and it did take humidity out of the air but I doubt it was the 50 pints per day it is advertised it can do. It would short cycle, a complete cycle of running and totally off was 10 minutes and started back up again; I timed it multiple times. It would turn off the compressor 3% lower than the set value which is OK but as soon as the compressor kicked off and it was running on just the fan the humidity would start to climb. The humidity would continue to climb once the fan turned off and in about a minute or so the compressor would come on. While it was dehumidifying It didn't push out hot air but barely warm air but it was working somewhat. After a week, it was working the same and by that time the humidity was close to set point based on a humidity sensor I had tracking it. It's 2 weeks old and it stopped working - I'm returning it. Water goes into reservoir. Why?** A: I had the same problem with my model that has the built in pump. I did the following to get it resolved: 1. Clean the drain hose out. I used small brushes and washed it out with high pressure water. 2. Opened the unit up, removed the small reservoir that the pump is connected to and cleaned it out. It was full of gunk and at the end of the pump intake tube there is a filter that was completely gunked up and the float that triggers the pump. 3. After all was cleaned I put the unit back together and the pump is working again and the bucket is remaining bone dry. **Q: Would this work well in the South? Such as Florida?** A: the principle behind these is: depends on what you are doing. What your AC is set at and IF you even have one! I'd say if you do set this thing FAR AWAY From the thermostat and the recirc vent if you do not it is going to be a tug-of-war between the heat this lets out and the AC trying to cool it down. I have a 990 square foot L frame house. FAR less than the max it is advertised to cover. It has 8 foot low low ceilings! We live in Oklahoma City and the weather is abouti 105 Farentheight the humidity 58-60 percent. ( RE 58 Percent most of the time inside the house and out!)The unit runs constantly even if I DISABLE the "continuous feature! It runs constantly! I set my AC at 75 degrees Farenehigth and the humidifier I have tried the "confort" setting and find it barely maintains the current level of humidity much less lowers it to 50%-as per the rule book included! 75 F/50% 77+45 ect! Do not expect it to work just because it says "1500 sqf" coverage. That also depends on ceiling hieght(though mine is minimum hieght) and how long it is turned on. 24 hours for a small degree in difference at all. If you leave it on constantly it will soak the coils causing it not to work at all. turn it off every 2/3 hours and leave it off for an hour. then set the clock over night and empty the bucket promptly and clean coils before you go to bed. It is also dependent on size. I made the mistake of listneing to questions/comments and buying the 22 pint beacuse others stated it "covers 1500sqf easily" no it does not! Buy the 22 pint for a small room and do not enclose it! It performed flawlessly and quite quietly until late October 2023 when it started icing up continuously. Although the unit was more than 5 months out of warranty we did contact hOme Labs for help. hOme customer service was absolutely great. Even though out of warranty they replaced the dehumidifier at their suggestion.
