A few years back, Fine Woodworking Magazine did a test review on about 12 rest inhibitors. CRC 3-36 came out on top when tested on steel plates. I've been a woodworker for 48 years and use it on all my cast-iron machine tops. Depending on the weather here in California, I get about 3 months out of a light application before having to re-apply it. I apply it with a small of cloth at the end of the day. It seems to fill the micro pores of the iron. I wipe any excess in the morning. It makes my table tops slicker. It has never caused fish eye in any of my finishes. It is also a good lubricant.
