I was sceptical that my chickens would be intelligent enough to work out how to access the feed, especially as I was stepping on the panel FOR them! But I have to say, it's been terrific. The chickens have managed to learn to access the feed quite quickly - well, one of them took her time. It does seem a bit delicate - children pulling the lid while stepping on the arm didn't do any damage, but it only has to work with the weight of a chicken and prevent rats. The step is also quite high. There is also a danger of some hens side feeding and the lid coming down on their necks so you have to have plants or fencing either side if your hens do this. As others have said the paint does comes off when putting it together/tightening bolts also which I didn’t mind. I Liked the fact that tools were provided. It’s very well-made and for hens less suspicious and jumpy than mine it’s a good investment. I really Wanted this to work for my hens as it’s been an expense. (Prompt delivery- but packaging is non-recyclable polystyrene.)I’m going to try a lowering shelf feeder next rather than a falling lid feeder next time.
