I'm a dedicated home cook, reader of blogs, watcher of food TV, and collector of cookbooks-- in fact, I am so drawn to beautiful cookbooks that I have had to actively limit my purchases so that I don't go broke drowning in pages. I pre-ordered Adrianna's book right away though, and was thrilled beyond belief the day it showed up at my door, in a box that I had pessimistically mistaken for my monthly delivery of fancy pants cat box supplies. What a game changer!"Pancakes" is everything I love about "A Cozy Kitchen," in book form. The photographs are stunning, the organization is clear and sparse, the recipes are wonderful, and the author's voice--so approachable, funny, and human--runs strongly throughout. I've tried a couple of the recipes so far and find them easy to understand and seriously creative--not surprising, as this seems to be the author's M.O.-- I make something from her site at least once a week, maybe twice--and everything has been amazing. I can't imagine the lengths to which she must go in her testing process, because these recipes, both on the blog and in this book, are perfectly consistent.Story: over the weekend, my boyfriend and I woke up late after having entertained the night before. We had a fridge full of weird party foods but nothing really breakfasty or brunchy to speak of. I immediately turned to Adrianna's book--bedhead and all--and from there the only hard part was deciding. We landed on the multigrain pancakes, thinking we had all of these berries that we might use for topping, and went to town. The story accompanying this recipe cracked me up--about a family taking their fridge through an early '80's style hippie revolution. I was pleasantly reminded of the first time wheat germ showed up in my fridge growing up, and my mother's insistence that it could be used as a delicious topping for ice cream. Silly woman. But listen-- wheat germ IS really great in pancakes. Particularly when said pancakes are kept warm in the oven as the author suggests, so that one might sit down and eat together with one's friend or partner instead of flipping them onto plates as they come and staying trapped in the kitchen. Genius.Thank you, Adrianna, for a stunning collection of recipes and stories.
