We tarred it first and then placed it on top, but after 2 Illinois seasons it started to mold and fall apart. Some shingled the roof in a tan shingle and placed the grass under so it hands down for the tiki hut effect!! We stapled it again and It looks great now for the last year and we also wrapped the area to protect it from the cold weather and snow. **Q: Do you glue it down ? I am putting on a wood awning** A: I did not use glue - but i was putting it on a metal dock. We screwed down 2 x 4's on top of metal roof. I live in the midwest where the winters get cold and it didn't last 3 years - so if you are year round warm climate these will be great. **Q: Is it mold/rot/insect resistant? Im in central Arkansas, and we get a lot ofcwet, humid weather. Thanks** A: I haven't experienced any problems with mine. I live in Indiana. **Q: What roof board do i use to attach the tiki grass to?** A: Mine was just for a parade float so I stapled it directly to the 2X4's.
