Product description OUR STORY Our founder, Caron, started Simply Gum in her kitchen after she discovered that regular chewing gum contains synthetic plastic and other artificial ingredients. Though we’ve outgrown her kitchen, our commitment to natural ingredients, delicious flavors, and beautiful packaging remain. NO SYNTHETIC PLASTIC Most gum out there is made of a synthetic plastic base. Yes, you heard us right! The FDA allows companies to hide synthetic substances under the term "gum base" on the label. This includes polyvinyl acetate, or synthetic plastic. We use a tree sap, called chicle, instead. OUR PROMISE Our gum is crafted at our Brooklyn factory by our team of gum chefs. Our gum is certified Kosher, non-GMO, and vegan. Plus it's dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten-free (except our Maple variety). Sugar Free Peppermint Gum What we put into our gum, and what we leave out (looking at you synthetic plastic), is what sets us apart from other chewing gums. We'd love to tell you a little bit more about a few of the essential ingredients that go into all of our gum flavors. Chicle A tree sap called chicle is the base of our gum. Most other gums list “Gum Base” as an ingredient- that’s code for plastic and 45 other chemicals. Instead of plastic, we proud to use our sustainably harvested chicle for a natural chew. Xylitol Derived from Birch Trees We take great care in sourcing the highest quality ingredients possible for our gum. The xylitol we use in our Sugar Free Peppermint Gum is derived from birch trees and sourced from the US. Xylitol has the same great taste as sugar but with almost half the calories and a lower glycemic index. Studies have shown that xylitol boosts dental health and helps prevent cavities. Natural Flavors We use a proprietary blend of steam distilled essential oils and extracts derived from plant, bud, bark, and roots to give our gum incredible natural flavor. This gum deserves better reviews! In my opinion its texture is basically indistinguishable from “normal” endocrine-disrupting, synthetic gum. After a while, I actually prefer the texture of this gum because regular gum breaks down into sludge if I chew it long enough, but this stuff remains the same texture all day. The initial sweetness wears off quickly but the peppermint flavor itself actually lasts many hours even though it’s not insanely powerful like mouthwash-flavored plastic gum. If you let it get on your lips while it’s wet, it is stickier and more difficult to remove than normal gum. Not a big deal though. It’ll actually come off of glassware and silverware super easily and in one piece. If the standard of judgement was not skewed by synthetic chemicals that no one should be consuming in the first place, I honestly don’t think anyone would be complaining.
