Lambs wool used to be used but the gel inserts are the newer technology. I love mine! The right amount of comfort, while still being thin. **Q: do you need lambs wool also?** A: I don't use it because I don't have a rubbing problem. The problem that I use these to solve is that my toes don't like the hard, uneven surface of the toe box and these pads are so stiff that they eliminate the discomfort for me. I really like them. **Q: does this make feet sweaty?** A: Yes it does a bit when worn for a long period. Not overly sweaty though to the point where your foot is sliding out of it. **Q: does it come with the ribbon** A: I saw that someone else said it did come with ribbon. Mine came with only the toe caps as advertised.
