Cleans and sterilizes dishwasher tub and build up in the drain that can sometimes happen. Like tablets vs the liquid ones that you turn upside down and the rubber supposedly opens up because with those you don’t really know when the seal breaks and may do so as dishwasher is draining and therefore no real good cleaning of dishwasher itself. Bottom line: these tablets do the job for interior of dishwasher and drain. Also you just throw one in on bottom of dishwasher every now and then with your regular load of dishes. There is no doing a separate empty load with these cleaning tabs.
