It is much firmer with very little “give”. My older dog doesn’t like this base. It does however replace a base cushion for an old dog bed very well. It is thick and strong. The other dog is ok on it. It is a very good substitute and raises the dog out of draughts on the floor. I would recommend with the caution this is the equivalent of a firm mattress. It gives excellent support, springs back into original shape as soon as she gets off the bed. She spends many hours a day resting and sleeping on it. It's a quality piece of memory foam and although I have only had it for a month I feel certain that it is going to stand the test of time. I have made a washable cover for it, which I think is essential and will lengthen it's life.
