Odd because you never rip embroidery stitches: it distorts the fabric. You gently back the stitches out, unstitching them with the point of a needle.The floss astonished me. Every other kit I have seen gives cut lengths, what they think you ought to need & little more. If you stitch with looser tension, or outline satin stitch areas, you wind up short. This kit gives you whole skeins, with the paper tubes still on! When you are through with these projects, you have the start of your thread collection. You don't have to worry about running out.The cloth is a pale warm grey like Victorian crash, not blinding white. As Victorian craft books point out, crash blends with everything.The scissors are junky, thick blades for the size, with blunt safety tips. Scissors aren't just for cutting lengths of floss. If you do make a mistake that won't pull out using a needle, you need tiny points to go in & snip above the fabric, without pulling on it & always to snip off waste knots. A seam ripper is not the tool for that.The wire threader is the usual cameo shape, just in plastic rather than thin metal. This is better because the wires are embedded, & less likely to pull out.An array of milliner's needles is odd, when there are embroidery sharps in the world. This needle leaves a big hole, because the eye is larger than the shaft, a shape I have never liked. Also, they don't tell you how to pick which needle to use. FYI, you pick a needle to match the thickness of floss threads being used, which can be from one to six in regular patterns.You get four double-sided instruction sheets, one for each pattern, & one showing how to do the stitches used.I'm old-fashioned (embroidering since 1963). I think it's better to start with simple shapes & repeating the same few stitches over & over until you get the hang of placing the needle, let alone controlling tension (suggest stem stitch & chain stitch to follow line patterns, then do filled shapes with long-&-short or satin stitches).So I would call this complex floral with lots of different stitches advanced beginner work. Being a small piece doesn't make it beginner-ish, & it contains French knots. Those are not for a first-timer.An intermediate embroiderer would find it pleasant. I enjoy it, because you usually want to embroider something well within your competence, doing it as a pleasure & a pastime, not always making every project a challenging learning experience.Also, I don't think a hoop is a suitable frame to hang on the wall. It's like leaving the curlers in a hair-do. Get a round frame, however plain, mount the embroidery on a circle of foamcore, & give your work a nice finish. Use a square frame with a circle cut out of the mat. Use a styrofoam ring with an 8" opening & cover the foam with quilting cottons. How cottage! I think that must have started with people who didn't know the simple art of framing. But it's a common thing to do nowadays, & you always have to get the frame separately anyway.So I now have three 8" hoops for my collection. They are finished very smoothly, but I dislike steel tensioners on the outer hoop. Brass is normal because it doesn't rust in my salt-air environment. They are a handy size to work, not so small that you have to shift the hoop every couple of hours.So put the seam ripper in your plain-sewing box, get yourself some skinny-pointy embroidery scissors (they don't have to be storks; lots of other patterns), watch videos on French knots, & this has you set. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great kit, love the idea *by R***E on July 15, 2025* It's a very generous starting kit, with extra supplies and detailed instructions. The material quiality is a little interesting, but not bad! I did find out that I didn't enjoy it but I appreciated that it came with everything I needed in such a good value.
