WHAT IS KALAMATA PDO? Kalamata extra virgin olive (EVOO) oil was registered as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product on July 13, 1997, at the request of the Greek Government by European Commission Regulation No 1065/97. This unique and celebrated EVOO is produced from Koroneiki variety olives, traditionally cultivated, handpicked and processed under strictly identified and certified conditions, within the administrative boundaries of the Prefecture of MESSINIA, GREECE whose capital city is KALAMATA. The ‘Koroneiki’ variety olive is native to Messinia Prefecture, originating from Koroni, a small coastal town in the south-eastern part of the defined Kalamata geographical area. PDO Geographical Indication (GI) registration, is a European Union certification scheme that supports and protects the gastronomical heritage and living conditions of farmers producing quality products linked to their region of geographic origin. It protects rural economy and rewards farmer efforts to produce exceptional quality products – unique in the world since geographical area, climate and soil contribute to the distinct characteristics of the registered GI. The KALAMATA PDO seal communicates to buyers worldwide, that they are purchasing an authentic, fully traceable extra virgin olive oil with specifically identifiable characteristics linked to the wider geographical region surrounding the city of Kalamata Greece. I've used this brand for several years now and it is simply the best tasting kalamata oil I have ever used. I know a lot of people prefer the peppery taste of Italian olive oils but I've always preferred the more gentle, warm taste/flavor of Greek kalamata oils or Spanish oils that are harvested later in the season and this particular brand makes a wonderful oil. The flavor is clear and clean. Good quality.

Great olive oil but it doesn’t list polyphenol level. I’m looking for very high polyphenol content so I switched to a brand that lists and confirms high polyphenol levels.
