Review: Holds lots of clothes and organizer is key for someone with lots of clothes - Bought this closet set for my daughter’s new house! Not to bad to put together just make sure you add the shelves where the double lines are to make sure you have them locked in to places! Once it’s attached to the wall you won’t want to undo all that just to lock the shelf in place! Very sturdy and worth the money!
Review: I think they're great, but the installation needs work - I recently purchased two of F4 wall mounted systems (white) to install in a pair of closets in a home I purchased. Both my closets have bare walls. Since these are made from ½ inch pipe they are very sturdy and robust. I’ve only just installed them so I’ll update this review after a couple of months to report on how they’re holding up. I think these are GREAT! The remainder of my review discusses a couple problems with this product that I’m hoping that Timate will correct before they ship many (or any?) more of them to future customers who might be somewhat less accommodating than me. The desertcart page says this product first appeared June 14 of this year, and as yet there are no other reviews on desertcart so I’ve concluded that not many have been shipped so far. Note thee problems are the justification for my 4-star vs. a 5-star rating, though other’s may be far less generous with their rating. Problem 1 concerns the “Anchoring Kit” that’s included to screw the wall plate into areas of a wall that are not supported by any studs. Presumably these are intended for use in conventional drywall but they are unusable for this. So this means you need to purchase a separate set of 30 drywall anchors. I ended up using E-Z Ancor #6 screw for this ($13.50 for a pack of 50 at Home Depot; $12.98 at Lowes). The ones included by Timate don’t include any installation information (e.g. the size of the hole to drill) but that’s not the problem. Regardless of the size hole the design of Timate’s anchors omits any means to prevent the nylon wall inserts from being pushed into the wall when any pressure is applied to the screw. I’ve included a picture of Timate’s anchors to show why they’re useless (maybe they’re designed for masonry or concrete walls?) . This deficiency was not a show stopper for me, but just reflects an additional cost for customers. Problem 2 concerns crucial installation information that’s present on the desertcart product description page, but inexplicably is omitted from their “User Manual”. Why this mattered in my case is that the person who located, evaluated, and ordered this garment rack off of desertcart (her) was not the person who was given the box from Timate and asked to do the installation (me) --- and me relied solely on this User Manual to guide the installation. The User Manual shows the parts list, how to assemble the components, and illustrates various configurations but OMITS any dimensional information OR the important warning about NOT extending the telescoping rod to its full length (35.1”), even though this information appears in a JPG on the desertcart product page!! I only became aware of this illustration AFTER installation when I visited the desertcart page to provide this review. Since my closet layout attempted to maximize total hanging rod space I had already installed a few telescoping rods extended to their maximum length. However, even before seeing the Timate warning, I could tell that the maximally extended telescoping rods would need extra support, so I separately purchased a couple ½” aluminum rods that extended the full 35” and then used four 1 ¾ “ hose clamps to cinch this rod under the telescoping rod (and then used some strips of white Gorilla Tape to cover the clamps). The extra cost here amounted to $25 for the pair of ½” aluminum rods, $8 for the hose clamps, and Gorilla tape ($10). Timate needs to come up with a better solution here. At a minimum the User Guide must AT LEAST indicate what is the SAFE maximum length for the extendable rod? Even better would be to include something analogous to the plastic clips they use for the rods and shelves that they could attach the far end of the inner rod and that would then providesa tight fit within a slightly tapered far end of the outer rod -- so that the inner and outer rods could lock firmly together at a point of “safe” overlap to render the extended rod rigidly inflexible. Another alternative would be to supply a rigid metal collar to cinch the inner and outer rod ends at the point of maximum extension, etc. The current vague warning is not a good solution. My solution of using a separate aluminum rod is admittedly a kludge, but I'm that kind of guy. The remaining comments are minor annoyances I encountered during installation. The rods and shelves are locked into place on the poles using plastic clips that fit into groves on the poles. Each clip includes an embossed arrow that points to the clip’s “top” and the manual explains this end of the clip must point up. This is because the clips are slightly tapered and are designed to fit tightly into slightly tapered cylindrical collars on the bars and shelves. Thus these collars also have a “top” side and must be installed respecting this. For the shelves this is less an issue since the user guide shows them installed with the flat side of the shelf on top (so the lip running along the outer edge of each shelf must point down). This automatically assures the correct orientation for the shelves collars. For the rods and support bars however the “up” side of each is much harder to discern, so it’s pretty each to get this wrong. Prior to assembly I took pains to use one of the short pole segments with a pair of clips fitted together at the top and then check fit for the correct orientation of all the other collars, and mark the “up” side on these as well. Timate should consider marking the “up” side on the collars too to make user screw-ups less likely. The each pole is attached to the closet wall using a circular plate that screws to the end of the support bay rods with a short Allen screw. Be sure to tighten this screw well to avoid the possibility of the rod-plate connection loosening up after the plate is screwed to the wall (since you’ll need to detach the plate to gain access to re-tighten the screw). Also the User Manual shows using a drill to pre-drill holes to attach the round plates to the wall. The plates have three holes spaced equally around the outer edge of the plate. When it comes time to install the screws into the plates after they’ve been attached to the support rods, I found it slightly annoying that the distance between the screw holes in the plate and the support rods was just a bit too close to allow using a cordless drill to drive in the screws (since the screw bit at the end of the drill was only able to contact the screw head at an angle and not directly perpendicular to the screw’s “in” direction). This was the case for both my Milwaukee and DeWalt drills. The alternative to driving 30 screws by hand is to use a pivoting screwdriver bit holder ($7 on desertcart) or other attachment for driving screws in tight spaces. My hope is someone from Timate might consider addressing these more serious problems before too many other less tolerant customers appear. I’d have given it 5-stars otherwise. I’ve included a few pictures, one of the F4 I installed in my closet, the alternative drywall anchors I considered, the anchor Timate includes, and an anchor that actually works for comparison.
