I have the smooth side against the floor. I use the mat in our home office where there is wood flooring. The mat stays in place even with us using a rolling chair. **Q: My desk has flooring underneath then a foot out carpet, I cannot slide my chair from the floor part to the carpet, Can I use this mat for transition?** A: Probably not. The one I got is made for wood or tile floors, there are no spikes on the bottom, so it would probably slide all over the place for you. You might be able to use the one for carpet, with the spikes on the bottom. That way it would hold on your carpet. But if your flooring is wood, those spikes might damage it. **Q: Would this mat work on concrete?
