I would highly recommend getting the newer ones because they give you five course/fine choices and they work very well. You just twist the bottom section of the mill choosing one of the five levels. Try it out first on all five so that you will know what you like. Peugeot mills are sturdy, durable, made very well, and beautiful. I love the natural color for salt, and I have the chocolate one for my pepper. The 7" mills are the perfect size for me in that they fit in my hands nicely and they fit in my cabinet perfectly. In the past I had one of the lacquered ones and, while they are quite lovely, the lacquer chips fairly easily. I was not pleased with that so it is nice to have the choice of the wood without lacquer. Incidentally, as of this date, amazon has the wrong picture up for this item. I believe it is the five inch mill they are showing. See pics that I have loaded that show the one I received, which is the correct item for this model.
