(or must be round only ?) thanks.** A: This is a product for low voltage use ONLY. It will MECHANICALLY accept such a wire -- I did so with a 14-2 wire rated for direct burial. BUT, the resulting seal was not really weather tight [I augmented the seal with RTV [silicone rubber from a tube] both outside and inside the box for a LOW VOLTAGE solar solar light]. This product would not meet code for 112 volt AC use and I would STRONGLY advise against using it for such an application. I was using 14/2 because the solar panel was a long way from the light and I wanted a heavy conductor to minimize the voltage drop between the two. PLEASE talk to a licensed electrician for advice on 112 volt wiring, ESPECIALLY when outdoor wiring is involved, to avoid dangerous and even deadly mistakes. Be well. **Q: Does it work with 6 AWG wire?** A: depends on how many conductors and the thickness of the insulation. Per the description, this box can handle 5-12mm. 6AWG wire (no insulation) is just over 4mm. **Q: What is the diameter of the two threaded holes in the ends? I plan to use this in a dry location, so would discard the sealing fittings.** A: The unit is now buried in a snow bank outside so I can't answer directly, but it comes with removable yellow rubbery inserts of two different inside diameters for different sized cables. I was able to easily fit 12 gauge, two conductor [plus bare ground wire], UF direct burial cable into the unit, through one of the yellow inserts and then tighten down the black end cap for a "weather tight" fit. Since you are installing in a dry location, you could toss the yellow inserts to allow maybe a 1/2 inch cable to enter the box if dust, insects and dirt were not an issue IF YOU SECURE THE CABLE MECHANICALLY OUTSIDE THE BOX so that there is no strain on the connections inside the box. The yellow inserts provide strain relief as well as weather proofing. [Also, because the UF cable has an oval cross-section, I covered the end with RVT silicon rubber to insure a weather tight sea in my application] CAUTION: I used the device for low voltage signal cables -- I doubt it would be code compliant for 120 volt a.c. line voltage, and personally would not recommend it for such use as a general principle. For line voltage work, use an appropriate junction box with code compliant strain relief methods. It would be nice if they had additional inserts for different wire gauges, but I made it work! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Junction Box *by C***E on February 20, 2026* This item worked very nice for my project. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy solution *by C***M on October 25, 2021* Needed a simple underground junction box to repair a rework of the wiring (120 V AC) to a post lamp in front of the house. This worked perfectly for that application. The wires seal using a built in compression nut at each end, but I also applied a bit of silicon grease as insurance at the two places where wires entered the box. Nice little device to join the wires included. Looks like it should last and remain waterproof, but time will tell. As with ANY outdoor 120VAC wiring, make sure it is protected with a quality Ground Fault Breaker. The cost of a decent GFCI breaker is cheap compared to the priceless loss of a single human life. Follow all local electrical codes in your area. If I ever upgrade my post lamp, I'll switch to a low voltage setup.
