This Aquilegia Red Star features clear, bright, crimson colored, 4 inch flowers with white corollas and a tuft of yellow stamens. They are sizable plants, reaching 30 inches or more, and they certainly add some old-fashioned charm in the summer border or flower garden. Aquilegia care includes following a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. The Columbine plant's health will also improve by cutting the foliage back in the fall and moving any dead leaves in the spring. Sow Columbine seeds in starter trays indoor 6 - 8 weeks before last expected frost. Press Aquilegia flower seed into the soil but do not cover it. Light is beneficial to germination. Or, Columbine seed can be directly sown into prepared seed beds with loosened, weed free soil after frost season has passed. This beautiful perennial will grow 32 inches tall and loves full sun to partial shade. Will bloom spring to early summer. Instructions included.
