The reason I do this is because the sound quality of the instruments in Notion is okay for a rough-cut but not really the quality one would need to make a professional-sounding presentation. I use another app for the orchestral sounds. However, the scoring functionality of Notion is very, very good! It is so easy to make a score, print it, or even send a Notion file to another person via email who has Notion also--the files, themselves, are relatively small and no problem to send via email. The musical notation capabilities are quite good, and, overall, I am very happy that I found Notion because it is my go-to app for scoring. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to learn and use, great for lead sheets *by S***H on Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2020* I use Notion 6 to make lead sheets for jazz tunes. Most tunes have a lead sheet available, but I sometimes need a different key (to accompany a vocalist) or I want to make other changes.To do this fairly quickly, I'll take a standard lead sheet and run in through the (really good) "Music Scanner" app on my iphone (using either pdf or camera). Music Scanner can export a MusicXML file which I import into Notion 6. Then copy and paste the notes into a new lead sheet, and fix up any scanning errors. Then I enter the chord symbols and lyrics, both of which are easy to do in Notion 6. Then transpose to whatever key I need.Notion 6 is pretty easy to learn and use. It has a few quirks and limitations but they are not too bad. If you are producing scores for publication, Notion 6 is probably not the right tool. But for my purposes it works great. I had previously used MuseScore, and I don't care that it's free, it was just too painful to do things in MuseScore that I thought should be easy.Notion 6 has a lot of capabilities that I don't use. If you are a composer, it has the ability to play back muli-part scores so you can hear your composition. But I don't need that.Notion 6 also has an inexpensive IOS app that I also have, it has less features but you can edit the same files on it. But I don't really use it, because for editing music I want to use a mouse and a big monitor, not an iPad.The price of Notion 6 is quite reasonable, especially through Amazon. PreSonus doesn't seem to be doing a lot in the way of updates, though. I hope they continue to make it better but it's quite good in its current state. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good But Could Do Better *by J***I on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2020* I highly recommend this software to any composer that wants to write music on the computer like me. Although, there are a few problems that I had with the software. But overall, it has the best distinctive sound for instruments and vocals, best tools for dynamics and tempos, and simple setup for the score despite some setbacks on adjustments. I will explain the three problems that I had with it but still works great.Let's first start with the virtual keyboard. Personally, I love the virtual keyboard that goes with it. It also includes a virtual guitar, virtual drum set, mixer, and chord chart. However, I can't use the computer keyboard to submit notes on the score while using the virtual keyboard (except on Finale). Also, the virtual keyboard doesn't have a size adjuster to help enhance the keyboard to make it bigger for my fingers to play notes since my computer has a touch screen (the iPad version has a bigger virtual keyboard than the desktop version). Anyway, the virtual keyboard has the best ranges for each instrument. It also omits certain notes that may be too high or too low for some instruments.Next is the scoring setup. I love how the orchestrations and instruments were provided for proper convenience. However, there was a problem with extracting parts. Somehow it can only extract parts in PDF and not Notion file (it can on Finale). I even copied one of the parts and pasted it on the new score for a specific part. It recognized the dynamics but left out the key signature, time signature, and tempo (Finale can recognize it overall). And as for the scoring setup, I had a bit of a hard time adjusting the staves, the systems, and the pages to keep it even. I'm impressed that the score adjusts measures automatic especially that it provides room for the dynamics but should try to keep the pages convenient (Finale does it very well with the Staff tool and Fit Measures tool). On the bright side, I can always adjust the size to blend in the automatic score adjustment.Finally, not that big of a deal, the XML. The XML from Finale to Notion was fantastic despite the score mess, but from Notion to Finale not so good. And yes, I have Finale music software. And I personally say that it's as good as Notion but too good when it comes to adjusting scores properly. Anyway, Finale recognizes every detail that I've composed with Notion. However, Notion's score settings were not compatible to Finale. True that they are both a different software but Notion knows Finale's score settings too well. Why can't Finale? At least it recognizes the note values, dynamics, and key signatures. Overall, the XML was a success from Notion despite its flaws. Watch out for corrupted files. If corrupted, then it may acquire multiple XML tiles until you get to a clean file for score adjustment.Again, I highly recommend this to composers that like to compose on the computer. It's got every sound that you need to write music (Finale doesn't have some sounds that Notion got). Despite the score, you can always convert to audio which is the best part. Most of it overall is the best but could do better on the score adjustments and enhancements with the virtual instruments.
