The portion to crimp on the insulation is pointed and you can’t get to if the insulating sleeve was in place. Also as in my case I soldered the wire to the connector which you can’t do if the insulation is in place. That’s why I prefer this type of connector, but it also works great either way. **Q: can these be soldered?** A: Actually, Jared Lucey is NOT wrong. The question of whether to solder or not depends on the application (and possibly code/regulations depending on your industry).
