It is the perfect size to fit a bun for sandwiches. There is still plenty of room for 2 eggs if desired. I have tried many kinds of supposedly non stick skillets. They work fine at first but they all failed after a few uses. I always go back to cast iron. From past experiences I found that cast iron works ok at first and with the right care they get better with use. We have one my wife had before we were married 54 years ago and it works very well yet. I thought at first that 16 dollars was a kind of steep price but it will serve me the rest of my days and then many years after I depart. This one did not stick with the first use. I am very pleased with this purchase. I use this one and my 6 and 1/2 skillet on my Pizzazz Pizza oven. It heats from the top and bottom so no flipping midway required and things do not burn. However, the 5" diameter refers to the top and you lose some of that as the walls curve in towards the bottom. The actual diameter of the bottom of the pan is about 4". That ended up being too small for me, so I ordered the 6.5" version instead.
