Review: Still The most efficient bug zapper I have ever owned after four years of use. - Update 8/7/25 Out of the many bug zappers I have tried, I am very glad to have discovered this brand. I have been given other brands to test out and several companies have tried to copy this brand, but other brands have fallen way short to the durability and performance in killing bugs like the Aspectek brand. My two older versions are about four years old and still work. Since the other brands are so inferior, I feel compelled and am willing to spend the extra time to tell how great this zapper is. I just tried their newest LED version of this bug zapper, but when I hung my two older zappers next to the new LED version, I observed that the older version zapped about twice to three times as many bugs. I will post a recent picture of my four year old zapper hanging next to an LED version to show what I am talking about. The pictures show ONE night’s worth of bugs. Beware that if you live in a heavily bug infested environment like I do, you will have to clean the grids each day. Because of this huge difference in performance, I just bought another brand new older version that still uses the fluorescent 10 watt tubes. I will be returning the LED version back. Yes, with the older version I have to replace my tubes about every year, an additional cost, but I want efficiency in killing bugs. The difference in the new version is that there is a new brace that screws the two outer safety grids together. I suspect that the reason is that the older style outer grids are difficult to snap into place and I have to pry them with a flat screwdriver to release. Since my older versions are around four years old, I do not remember the electrocution grids being so shiny made of stainless steel like the new one I just bought. **Q: Re: upgraded - what is upgraded?**
A: Something doesn't look right. This "upgraded" model has a Amazon date of 9/9/15. While the model that is not "upgraded" has a date of 8/17/18. Both the same brand and they both look the same except for the non upgraded model is shown with black on both sides.

**Q: Where to buy replacement bulb?**
A: These are standard T8 F10W bulbs for the 20w model. Any brand would work.

**Q: Will this kill wasps coming fown my chimney?**
A: I would screen your chimney. But yes it will kill them the unit would have to be close to the opening.  Note this makes a loud pop when a bug gets in the gris.
NOTE: Bugs fly in front of the grid but does not get in it. I took a piece of furnace duct metal, cut a square init with a 1" flange sticking out the back , mounted a small bathroom exhaust fan to it. I then mounted the fan and metal plate to the back of the unit.   the fan now sucks the bugs into the grid.  Makes a 300 to 400 % improvement in bug kills. ( I should get a sizable royalty from the manufacturer for tilling them how to improve it.)

**Q: Can you buy these 10W ultra violet replalcement bulbs at any hardware store or are these bulbs specific to this machine?**
A: They are T8 F10W bulbs. Easy to order online.

This is the product you want if you have a fly or other flying insect problem. This will kill moths, flies and mosquitoes and probably others but I only have issues with those three. Less than a minute after turning this on it was zapping away. Almost like hearing a popcorn popper going. This is the second one of these I have had. The lights if left on continuously 24-7 lasted me about 8 months. If you have it on only at night when it works best then with the spare bulbs you should not need to obtain replacement bulbs for about 30 or so months. I will tell you that this device will make fast work of all kinds of flies and are particularly effective against those tiny ones you can barely see. In the first week I counted over 300 dead flies the last time I got one. I bought the second one because I loaned my original one to a friend who now doesn't want to give it back. So I made it a gift and ordered a second. This is a slightly updated version of the one I bought over a year ago. The assembly hardware appears slightly different and they now include a chain you can hang if by. Make sure you unplug this before you try to change the light bulbs. OH and there is a handy tray for cleaning. You will definitely want to empty that periodically. Do it gently as the flies don't weigh much and it is easy to dump them on yourself. A vacuum might work though I have not tried that. So how well does this work compared to other things I have tried? I have tried bug spray. That is pointless. Enough to kill all the flies would make the air unbreathable for 48 hours. I tried a cheaper solution consisting of a very small UV light and a piece of sticky paper. That was effective but on a very small scale and you have to replace that paper frequently. I ran out of paper in a week and then found I could not buy replacements. That item was about $10 so that would be $520 a year if you want constant protection. I tried one of those electric fly swatters that look like a badminton racket. It's the same idea but you have to chase the flies around all day because there is no UV light to attract the flies with. So that was a waste of money and I think I paid something like $25 for two of those. They were rechargeable but who wants to put all that effort into it? So then I tried this device and it worked beautifully. Nothing else completely eliminated all the flies in under a week. It took about three days to make the flies unnoticeable then it was just this thing killing them as they sneaked into my house, a few a day. For the whole time I had it going I never once had any but the occasional fly that would always find it's way to this zapper. A note, I live in a very warm climate conducive to insect infestation. In this area a lot of people have to tent their houses periodically to get rid of flying insects. This will prevent that from being needed at least for flying insects. My place is about 3000 cubic feet so not terribly big. I might suggest a normal size three bedroom house might be best served with at least two of these or possibly a third if your home is particularly large. Say at least one for every 5000 cubic feet of space. This will plug into a standard 110 outlet and uses a minimal amount of electricity. I have mine plugged into the same outlet with my refrigerator.
