It is solid wood and the rustic finish is beautiful. It was very quick & easy to put together with my daughter holding the bottom in place while I quickly screwed the metal sides in place. The box the hardware came in was stapled to the underside of the top. I just used needle nose pliers to pull the staples out. It took longer to vacuum all the styrofoam packing off. I gave it 4 stars because the edge on the bottom shelf had been slightly gouged during shipping. The box it came in was in very poor condition, too. Since I bought this for its rustic look, I just used a little furniture stain touch up on the gouge and now you can't even tell where it was damaged. It looks so good, my husband could not find where it was damaged. It has plastic casters which will make it very easy to move when I want to vacuum. They also have screw in plastic slides on the bottom to protect the floor when you move it, if you decide to take the casters off. It is very heavy duty and well made.
