I added a 12v movement sensor bought on ebay for £4. Easy to add in the circuit as lots of surplus wire. Connect to the load side of the switch where the wire comes out of the switch to the lights. The lights come on when someone enters the room and off again a few seconds after leaving. The batteries should last much longer.
