I usually put these traps in small plastic sealable tubs that I cut some small openings in (I save these tubs and reuse year after year). They still work and I don't have to be concerned about our pets getting into them. When using the outdoor traps, the tubs help keep rain/moisture as well as animals from getting at the traps. **Q: Are they safe to use in a car?** A: Can't say with certainty; I've not had reason to use it this way. Clearly one wouldn't want the cannister to be accessible to anyone who is not able to handle it responsibly but, that having been said, I doubt the item could be effective in a car.
